Rf in the shack.

Unread post by M0VMT »

It's been a long time since I had RF in the shack you know the tingle on the lip from the mc60 base mic and the PC shutting down in fact the last time must have been 15+ years ago when I had a doublet up.
Well I recently made a simple zs6bkw it performs pretty good, cheap to knock up and very easy for a novice to make.
Once I had my new shiny wire up I noticed I couldn't run more than 100 watts as the house alarm was dancing, I did use a choke that was in my drawer and around 10 turns of heavy wire around a t200 26 mix that seemed to stop all previous common mode issues but not this time.
Off I went to the g3txq site to find my options regards a new choke.
I settled for a t240 31 here's a few images below I went for 6turns one way and then 6 the other, I'm happy to report 400watts does not cause my house alarm to go off.
It was inserted directly after the ladder.
Coax used was rg400 you'll need a farrite ferrite to suit your needs and of course turns dependent on your frequency....also a project box big enough I used a 100x100x50 and 2 so238 chassis sockets and drill two small weep hokes in the bottom for drainage.
Torroids can be stacked for better choking and to avoid saturation, it's all on Steve's g3txq site now sadly SK if anyone would like more information.

Well as you well know Rob self construction of most things works out better and you know what was used.
The cost was around £28, those coax wound chokes are pretty useless and it's noted on Steve's site.
