IC-7851

Unread post by M0HJO »

Well, sorry I have not been around lately, few things going on with the family.
Then a fire in my Sons bedroom, followed by a RTA four weeks ago for myself, lucky HJO.

Its been one thing after another!

Over the last six months, a few radios have come and gone:
IC-7700, IC-7800MKII, IC-7600, IC-7851, IC-7610, TS-870 & FT-101D

This is Whats still here, HF wise;
IC-7851 & IC-7600.

The 7851 is the main player, with the 7600 being back up.
All the radio I've had, the 7851 beats them all in every way! I was disappointed with the 7610, felt cheap (knobs) screen burns (replaced) not good for a radio costing £3500.

The 101D from Yaesu was a surprise, beat the 7610 in every way, always got great reports and very quiet RX.

But the 7851 is king!!

John.

Only just back to work after six weeks, hand/arm and head damage, but much better.
Hit head on by a women who said "I just lost concentration" Jesus!!

The boy put his head clippers on charge, went downstairs to watch TV.
Within 10 min, he heard a bang, ran up to his room, its on fire.

He manged to put it out and save the house!
But room gutted and below also, all fixed now.
Glad to be Here.

Sorry to hear about the RTA and fire. Hope that you are getting better now.

Not tried any new radios for a long while. Since the radio shop near Matlock closed down some years ago really.

No, that was the last of the ones near here. There used to be a place in Leeds city centre, but that closed years ago.

There also used to be two in the Birmingham area, when I lived down there, but they have gone as well.

The only option is either a long journey or order online without having the chance to try the gear out first, but you can send it back if it's not up to scratch, but that's expensive, as you obviously have to pay for the gear first and reclaim when you send it back, or wait for a rally, but even then few dealers set up gear to be tried out.
