£50 bike voucher to "do it up"?....they obviously have not seen mine!
It consists of an old frame, slightly rusting gears, back wheel only, chain missing, and has no saddle currently.
It was a pretty good "gents 10 speed racer" in its day, but that was back in the late 70's early 80's, I used it daily to go to the factory I worked at back in those days, I am not sure how far £50 will go to bring it back up to usable daily scratch.
Now if they want to "prescribe me" a brand new modern one on the NHS....I am all for it, give me the prescription Doc!
Will my old bike count?
Re: Will my old bike count?
There's no bike like an old bike.
If I'd been born female, I would have been the Village Bike.

Re: Will my old bike count?
Looks like the scheme is not worth having.
The voucher has to go towards work done by a shop, which means it will buy you next to nothing.
It is more a help to the cycles shops than the customers.
What's the betting the quotes will be upped by the £50 to start with.
If it could be used to buy parts, it might have been worthwhile.
I bet there will be thousands of vouchers claimed and not used.

I think you are probably right.
Looking at the price of cycles and bits these days, £50 will not go that far!
Certainly isn't going to get my old Carlton back on the road.
It's just another political "we are getting on top of fat buggers" lip service stunt.
In the real World it amounts to nothing.
Looking at the news....

Well no surprise there, it was always going to crash with so little on offer to grabbed by potentially so many.
"The vouchers would typically cover the bill for a standard service and the replacement of a basic component such as an inner tube or cable."
Yep, that's about all you would get for £50, a squirt of oil and an inner tube.

Re: Will my old bike count?
My wife has a bike, needs two new tyres and tubes, and a brake cable, plus setting up the gears.
Could do that with £50 of parts, but what the cycle shops would charge, even with the £50 voucher, it would be cheaper to get another SH bike.
