Icom 9700 DSTAR Help

Unread post by M0XXQ »

Chaps, I have had a 9700 for a couple of months now, just use it for rag chewing on a local 2M net, however I want to get it dialled in to the DSTAR system - Tried a couple of YouTube vids without success - Any suggestions?

Once you've registered you will need a icf file for the 9700.

Anything back from the network Rob, you should think about a little hotspot then we could get on through a bridge.

With this virus mate I think it'll be some time, you could get a file maybe from icom UK and get the radio loaded up ready and familiarize yourself with the system.

I've recently bought an IC-9700 and tried to get my head around using it on D-Star. I have the latest file with all the VHF and UHF D-Star repeaters and access nodes but have yet to get reliable access to any.

A local did help me by going to the DV calling frequency on 144.6125MHz and we made a D-Star contact, simplex, so at least I know it will work.

However, I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm just not getting a signal into any of the advertised D-Star repeaters/nodes. That, obviously, is a problem... Once I get that sorted out, I'll try again.

Looking on the D-Star website one of the systems must have heard me, however briefly, as it said that my callsign had been recorded on the system, so the registration must have been OK.

I don't want to buy and set up a hotspot, I didn't really buy the IC-9700 for D-Star, but if I can access the reflectors for a natter it might be useful.

Hello Dave
Yes you are registered on dstar I've just checked.....I'm unsure why you can't access the local dv repeaters unless the path isn't good enough.
I think a hotspot is a good investment Dave and it would make a good companion for the 9700.
