Re: Coax Antenna
Good to have you back Dave what have you been up to. Sorry for the delay in replying, over a year! I didn't do much radio for a few years and I passed my motorcycle licence, so I spent time on that until Covid hit. Lately I've been using 6M, 4M, 2M, 70cm and 23cm, I've also recently started monitor...

Re: MGM on 23cm
Hi Rob, Sorry for the delay in replying, I sort of lost track of this forum! At the time I was using a TS2000X and a Wimo "44" element Yagi. Wimo count each rod in the reflector as an additional element, so I call it a 37 element as I only count the reflector as one. I still have, and use ...

Re: Icom 9700 DSTAR Help
I've recently bought an IC-9700 and tried to get my head around using it on D-Star. I have the latest file with all the VHF and UHF D-Star repeaters and access nodes but have yet to get reliable access to any. A local did help me by going to the DV calling frequency on 144.6125MHz and we made a D-St...

Re: Coax Antenna
I realize that this might be a bit late in the discussion, but before you put up a coaxial cable antenna, you might want to read this article written by the late Steve Hunt (G3TXQ) on tests that he did with these antennas. In fact, the website is worth going through as it contains a lot of useful in...

Re: Anyone want a 3cm transverter?
Sorry that I didn't reply. I didn't log back onto this forum for a while.
The 3cm transverter and 150W SSPA, plus a few other bits and pieces have been sold.

Re: GB3VHF news
I've not been on the forum for a while, so still catching up. Over the years I've used GB3VHF and GB3UHF as ways of checking in antennas/radios are working and for propagation enhancement warnings. The two beacons have served me well for these jobs on 2M and 70cm. I use GB3MHZ for similar tests on 2...

Re: Silly question
RG213 is reasonable on 144MHz, loss per 100 metres about 6.9dB, so your run of 12m means a loss of about 0.828dB. So, if you put 10 watts in at the bottom, you should get 8.26 Watts out at the top. Assuming a good match to the antenna, and I don't just mean what you read on a typical Amateur Radio V...

Re: FT8 2 metre record
That'll be good news. When he gets confirmation get him to send it to RSGB to update the records.
Unless there has been another claim since that was published on 3rd January 2020, he's in with a shout of the record.

Re: Silly question
My money is on faulty coax, the reason behind my theory is power. lets say you have one or several micro-fractures in the coaxial cable, on RX this is significant why? Because there isn't enough voltage to breakdown the air in the micro-fractures, however on TX lets say you're sticking 100W into an...
