I enjoy ft8 on 144mhz and find it interesting on low power, no 23cm here as of yet unfortunately.

Hi Rob,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I sort of lost track of this forum!

At the time I was using a TS2000X and a Wimo "44" element Yagi. Wimo count each rod in the reflector as an additional element, so I call it a 37 element as I only count the reflector as one.

I still have, and use the TS2000X, but I've not done any more FT8 on 23cm since last year. Now that I have the IC-9700 with a 10MHz GPSDO plugged in, so the frequency isn't as far 'off' as it was using the TS2000X, I might try FT8 and other MGM modes as well.

Interesting results Dave - What equipment are you running?
i wonder how many of those contacts were possibly helped along by Aircraft Scatter, not a band I have ever played with but it certainly has peak my interest.

Cheers

Rob.

During the better conditions on 23cm I've been trying out FT8. It seems to work OK as long as signals are strong enough and don't drift too much.

Worked the following countries and squares.

DA-DL Fed. Rep. of Germany
F France
G, GX England
ON-OT Belgium
OZ Denmark
PA-PI Netherlands

And the following squares

LOCATOR QSO Conf. CALLSIGN DATE TIME LOCATOR DISTANCE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JO31 2 0 DK1VC 29/12/2019 13:09 JO31 596 +-
JO32 2 0 PE1IWT 29/12/2019 13:16 JO32 564 +-
JO21 2 0 ON4BCV 29/12/2019 13:24 JO21 470 +-
JO22 3 0 PH2M 29/12/2019 16:23 JO22HC 418
JO45 1 0 OZ2OE 29/12/2019 21:08 JO45VV 772
IO92 1 0 G8SEI 29/12/2019 21:53 IO92 82 +-
JO00 1 0 F4EMG 30/12/2019 14:49 JO00WU 341
IO93 1 0 G5TV 31/12/2019 13:19 IO93FN 41

The number after the locator is the number of contacts made with someone in that square, the call sign is the 1st station worked, but not necessarily the furthest station worked in that square.

The "+/-" indicates that the logging program can't calculate an accurate distance as only 4 digit IARU locator is logged. I might manually go through, look up the full 6 digit locators, and get a more accurate distance calculation.
